Adolphe Sax invented the saxophone in the early 1840s. His given name was Antoine-Joseph. He was a Belgian inventor and musician who played flute and clarinet. Besides saxophone, he also invented the saxhorn, saxotromba, and saxtuba. In 1849, he was awarded as the Chevalier rank of the Legion of Honor.
