Born June 28th, 1960, John Elway played quarterback in the NFL for the Denver Broncos and is a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Elway was a standout at Stanford where he broke career marks for passing attempts and completions. He was drafted 1st overall in the 1983 draft by the Baltimore Colts, at which time he asked to be traded. On May 2nd, 1983, Elway was traded to the Denver Broncos where he spent his entire professional career.
Elway struggled his rookie season, but by his second year in the league, Elway set team records for passing attempts, completions and yards. On January 11th, 1987, he led the Broncos on one of the most clutch performances in NFL history, when he helped guide the Broncos on a 98-yard, game-tying drive in the AFC Championship Game against the Cleveland Browns, which has since been given the label of ‘’The Drive’’.
Elway would achieve his first of two Super Bowl championships at the end of the 1997 NFL season. The Broncos defeated the Green Bay Packers 31-24 in Super Bowl XXXII and would repeat the next year against the Atlanta Falcons, 34-19. Elway would be named the MVP of Super Bowl XXXIII, which was his final professional game outside of the Pro Bowl later that year.
In his first year of eligibility in 2004, Elway was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton , Ohio . Since his retirement, Elway has owned several businesses, including being a co-owner of the Colorado Crush, an arena league football team.
